Location: London | Salary: £58-63K + generous package    

This exciting leadership role will work in collaboration with the senior leadership team and departments to provide advice and assurance relating to all aspects of biological and chemical risk

You will lead, coach and further develop a high-performing and customer focused team of safety professionals that will play a significant role in oversight of biological and chemical safety, compliance and performance. This role will influence and challenge the existing procedural models to offer assurances and continuous improvements in relation to the management, storage and use of biological and chemical agents to ensure that the organisation to remains at the forefront of sector developments.

 

Purpose

 

  • Ensure that compliance with legal and statutory requirements are being met with regards to the handling, use and storage of biological and chemical agents.
  • Influence and engage senior leaders in providing structure through which the vision and commitment to safety is set
  • Engage with departmental leaders in matters relating to work with biological agents and offer assurances that all related risks are being appropriately managed
  • Lead the design and implementation of licencing, monitoring and recording of controlled substances
  • Lead the design, implementation and delivery of a framework for monitoring biological containment level 2 and 3 facilities to offer assurance of a consistent standard of excellence in regards to safety
  • Oversee the management of laboratory assets and provide assurance regarding the control and management of such.to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain key relationships with internal and external stakeholders with the overall aim of working in partnership where appropriate.
  • Manage liaison with 3rd parties such as the HSE in relation to safety matters.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide strategic vision and visible leadership, in relation to biological and chemical safety
  • Ensure duty holders are appropriately skilled to deliver exceptional standards of safety performance by supporting learning and challenging safety preconceptions.
  • Develop strong working relationships, reporting lines and joint working with other Safety Services Heads to meet the highest standards of statutory and legislative compliance and evidence-based practice.
  • Lead on the implementation of health and safety management systems and supporting technologies to meet best practice
  • Be proactive in providing advice, guidance and support to all departments in relation to their safety responsibilities and risks associated with biological agents or chemicals.
  • Provide specialist advice and monitoring for activities undertaken at containment level 2 and containment level 3
  • Provide assurances relating to the appropriate review and sign off of risk assessment for GM work

 

Criteria

  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH)
  • Degree in chemical or biological discipline
  • Qualified Biological Safety Practitioner
  • Strong chemical and biological safety background
  • Senior management and leadership experience
