A leading independent school has an opportunity for a Health, Safety and Security Manager to join their team, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of staff, pupils, and visitors across a range of facilities. Collaborating closely with the Facilities Director, Bursar, and Compliance Department, this position oversees the implementation of Health and Safety policies and procedures at all levels of the organisation.

Health and Safety

  • Provide expert advice on Health and Safety matters, interpreting relevant legislation and promoting safety awareness.
  • Coordinate statutory inspections, servicing requirements, and property risk assessments, ensuring timely action on recommendations.
  • Manage and update risk assessments across departments, ensuring comprehensive compliance.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, maintaining accurate records.
  • Oversee the maintenance of Accident reporting procedures and statutory reporting to HSE.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure Health and Safety compliance and oversee external audits.
  • Manage various checks and inspections, including first aid boxes, COSHH storage, and more.

Fire Safety

  • Ensure compliance with Fire Safety legislation and relevant guidance documents.
  • Implement necessary actions from Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support on fire safety matters.
  • Develop and implement Fire Safety policies and procedures in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Ensure all fire detection systems and firefighting equipment are tested and maintained.


  • Oversee all aspects of site security, including personnel management and on-call cover.
  • Manage security staff and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
  • Coordinate security checks and inspections, including CCTV monitoring and liaison with law enforcement.
  • Conduct security briefings for staff and manage emergency response procedures.

We are looking for a NEBOSH Certificate as a minimum, along with experience in a property, facilities, or consultancy environment, excellent communication skills and a positive, engaging approach to Health & Safety management. Typical working hours are Mon-Fri, 08:30 – 16:30. Staff parking is available on-site and is a 1 mile walk from Cambridge railway station.
